Our Plant Pod Packaging Just Became More Eco-friendly

Our Plant Pod Packaging Just Became More Eco-friendly

At Click & Grow, we believe humankind’s relationship with nature is extremely important. To contribute to a more sustainable future, we create products that enable nutritious greens to be grown hyper-locally, even in urban areas where gardening space is hard to come by.

Sustainable packaging

We also believe the packaging of our products is important when talking about sustainability. In 2018 we took a big step towards sustainability by replacing the packaging material for our 3-pack plant pods with one that consists of 40% recycled material and 60% virgin material.

This year, we’ve taken it a step further with the packaging for our 9-pack plant pods which contains no plastic at all. For all of our 9-packs, we use cardboard made of 36% recycled material. Cardboard is easy to recycle and more biodegradable than plastic. In fact, our cardboard packs are even safe to compost at home, providing you remove the colour-printed sticker. To coincide with our new packaging, we’re delighted to be releasing more 9-pack variety mixes which you’ve asked for. Check out our exciting new additions such as: Basil Variety Mix, Fruit and Veggie Mix, Vibrant Flower Mix, Italian Herb Mix, Steak Seasoning Mix, Salad Greens Mix, Asian Cuisine Mix, Calming Tea Mix, Chili Pepper Mix and more.

Why use less plastic?

Plastic waste is a huge issue. According to National Geographic, 91% of plastic isn’t recycled and it’s estimated that 40% of plastic waste comes from single-use packaging. So much energy goes into producing plastic which is often disposed of after one use. Many mass produced plastics are not biodegradable and accumulate in landfills. Plastic buried deep in landfills can leach chemicals that spread into groundwater.

Many plastics also come from non-renewable fossil fuels. It’s staggering to think that between 1950 and 2012, the production of plastics increased from approximately 1.7 million tons to almost 300 million tons per year

There’s no doubt about it, using less plastic is an important step towards a more sustainable future. With this in mind, we’re very happy that our 9-packs are now completely free from plastic. Stay tuned for more updates in the future!
